Helen Adam (1909-1993), influential Scottish-American poet, collagist, actress (in two experimental films), and photographer, was born in Glasgow, and attended Edinburgh University. She wrote her first book in 1923, and became a journalist; she moved to the United States in 1939, where she lived for the rest of her life (in San Francisco and later New York City).
