Raton, NM. Very Good. Mounted Photograph. Late 19th century mounted albumen photograph. No publication date, likely circa 1890. The photo measures approximately 8 x 6 inches while the mount measures about 10 x 8 inches. "W. A. White Artist Raton New Mexico" appears in white in the negative. "Taos" is written in pen below the image and on the verso. Otherwise, verso is blank. Minor wear to edges of mount; mild soiling to verso. The sepia-tone image is unusually sharp. Overall, very good condition. William A. White (1847-1916) was a photographer active in Raton, New Mexico from 1885 to 1902. He is known for traveling throughout northeast New Mexico and photographing San Geronimo Day at Taos Pueblo (Mautz 417). This image depicts a Native American relay race that was apparently part of San Geronimo Day celebrations. Taos Pueblo is visible in the background. .
