Moderate tanning, with light foxing and marking to pages. Noticeable tanning to rough-cut text block edges. Cracking to hinges, with exposed netting. Some rub-marking and tanning to pastedowns and rear endpaper with inscriptions to front. Front endpaper is missing. Boards have moderate shelf wear, with rubbing and marking. Light bumping to corners and heavy crushing to spine ends. Book has noticeable forward lean. Boards are slightly bowed and tanned with large split to rear joint.

Seeley & Co, London, 1887. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good Condition/No Dust Jacket. Illustrator: Joseph Pennell; Philip Gilbert Hamilton. Clean blue covers with gilt lettering and illustrations on the front cover and gilt lettering on the spine, corners and spine-ends are bumped and are lightly rubbe. Paper is split over internal hinges but covers are securely attached, internally there is a little separation of some gatherings but the binding is sound. Uncut (untrimmed) pages are a little darkened and more so at the extreme edges but are otherwise clean. All sixteen black and white plates and 4 maps are present along with the very many vignette illustrations. No dust-jacket. Illustrator: Joseph Pennell; Philip Gilbert Hamilton. Quantity Available: 1.
