Bound in calf leather with gilt lettering and decoration. Rebacked, with the original boards and spine laid down. Uniform binding. With an armorial nameplate for Robert Thompson on the front pastedowns. With an armorial nameplate for William Thompson on the rear pastedown of Sardanapalus. George Gordon Byron, 6th Baron Byron, FRS, 17881824, was a British poet and a leading figure in Romanticism. He is regarded as one of the greatest European poets and remains widely read and influential, both in the English-speaking world and beyond. Byron's fame rests not only on his writings but also on his life. He was famously described by Lady Caroline Lamb as mad, bad, and dangerous to know. Condition: The bindings are tight and firm. There is some mild wear to the extremities, including some mild bumping and rubbing. The top of the spine leather of volume2 is missing, as shown above. Internally the pages are generally clean and bright, with very slight browning to the edges, with the occasional spot. Overall the condition is very good..
