publishers: Whittaker & Co., and George Bell, London, 1867,. see description. first edition, large 8vo, xliv,466pp, a number of the earlier pages of Juvenal with notes in the margin and some underlining but, in light pencil, not interferring with text, the front free endpaper has been removed leading to a weakening of the inside hinge, crossed-out signature inside front cover and a signature label, and the facing first of the two title pages a little browned, also the last page of the publisher's list at the back, faint signs of damp on the back endpapers, original cloth rubbed top and bottom of spine and at extremities, title gilt on spine, cloth on boards a little puckered with the colour-leaching signs of damp but, apart from the little pencil, the text pages are clean and very good with many gatherings remaining uncut.
