No date. Ca. 1800.. Copper plate engraving, image 6 1/2 x 5 inches on thick wove paper sheet 10 x 7 1/2 inches. Scattered foxing, mostly in margins, good condition. This is the image of a man of Nootka Sound, which is on the west coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, by artist John Webber, originally published in the report of the third voyage of Captain Cook, here from an early 19th century publication. The direction of the image is reversed from that in the original publication, reflecting the fact that the engraver, in producing a print for this later publication, has engraved the image onto the plate to match the original, and, in printing, the image is reversed. .
