About This Item

N.Y.: Chelsea House, 1925. 1st edition. Spine edges rubbed, light soiling else a very good copy in dust jacket, missing piece at foot of spine and small piece at head, 3 inch x 1 inch piece out at rear jacket, with pencil markings at rear. Stock market swindler is found dead in his office and Sergeant Sam Haynes had his work cut out for him. Scarce. McCulley was the author of hundreds of stories for the pulps, fifty novels, numerous screenplays for film and television, and the creator of the character Zorro. McCulley's Zorro character, reminiscent of Baroness Orczy's Scarlet Pimpernel, became his most enduring character. Aside from Zorro, McCulley created many other pulp characters, including Black Star, The Spider, The Mongoose, and Thubway Tham. Many of McCulley's characters -- The Green Ghost, The Thunderbolt, and The Crimson Clown -- were inspirations for the masked heroes that have appeared in popular culture from McCulley's time to the present day. From the George Cloos collection of detective fiction.. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Good. Book.
