Additionally I believe the bookplate on the front pastedown is that of Robert Rockliff who jointly ran the Publishing house of Rockliff & Duckworth in Liverpool [ I secured books from the Rockliff Family recently ] 293 p. : illus.Book is somewhat dusty on the outside, spine roughly relaid, block is tight, pages mainly clean, some with a trace stain at lower margins. [ Location : Br2/GC ]. First Edition. Hard Cover. Fair/good. 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall.

London: Sampson Low, Son, and Marston, 1869. [Literature] FIRST EDITION. Octavo (18 x 13cm), pp.xii; 297; [3]; 16. With an engraved frontispiece. Publisher's advertisements to rear. Brown coated endpapers. Publisher's red cloth to boards. Titles, as well as decoration in gilt and black tooled to upper and spine. Boards bevelled. All edges gilt. Interior lightly toned, with sparse marking and thumbing. A few leaves dog-eared. Inscription dating to 1870 in black ink to title page. Rear hinge split, front starting. Top edge slightly toned. Rolling to spine. Toning and splashing to boards with additional marking to lower. Minor wear and fraying to extremities. Very good. Moving to London from Ireland as a young man, Fitzgerald befriended Charles Dickens and frequently contributed to his weekly magazine Household Words. This novel was one such offering; it is a prequel to Fitzgerald's earlier juvenile novel 'School Days at Saxonhurst.'.
