(xiv), 552 pages; Former owner's name in pencil on ffep, otherwise contents clean and tight in original binding of brown textured boards with brown leather spine lettered in gilt; leather at spine dry and rubbed, gilt lettering still bright. Illustrated with 12 woodcut plates and plans. The first part of the work is written by Mr. Potter of Schenectady College. The first chapter treats of the nature and object of education in its most comprehensive sense, including intellectual, moral, aesthetical, and physical education. The second chapter treats of the relation of common schools to other means of education and means of their approval. An argument is put forth for inclusion of the arts in the curriculum to temper the agitation produced by science and business activity. The second part is authored by George B.
