The text of the Naumburg Memorial Lecture, about writing biographical novels, by one of the best practitioners of the genre as the author of Lust for Life (Vincent Van Gogh), Sailor on Horseback (Jack London), and The Origin (Charles Darwin).

17 pages. First edition (first printing). A fine copy in wrappers (pamphlet). This copy is inscribed by Stone to the National Book Award-winning evolutionary theorist Stephen Jay Gould: "Dear Steve-Just in case you ever wanted to write a Biography of Evolutions... My best, Irving."

This copy comes from Gould's Harvard office library, with a letterpress-printed bookplate denoting the provenance.
