New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1928. One of the real masterpieces of golf literature First edition, signed limited issue, number 195 of 260 copies signed by the author. Additionally inscribed by the author above the limitation, "To Donald Ryan, A promising young Golfer, I wish him well, 20 May 1931". This work is "one of the real masterpieces of golf literature" (Murdoch 475). MacDonald was an influential champion of golf in the United States and laid out several well-known courses, including the National Gold Links of America, The Creek Club, Piping Rock Club, Greenbrier Hotel course, and the Yale University golf club. This edition is one of the most highly valued books on American golf history and is quite scarce in good condition with the map intact, as here. Copies with a signature additional to that called for in the limitation are likewise uncommon, with just one other such copy traced. Quarto. Original half japon, morocco label to spine, red boards, Macdonald's crest to front board in gilt, top edge gilt, others untrimmed. Tipped-in colour frontispiece and 5 plates, illustrations throughout, folding map at rear. Wear to extremities, slight scuffs and a couple of marks to sides, very occasional light foxing to contents; a very good copy. Murdoch 475.

NY: Conde Nast, 1933-36, 1933. Folios. 18 issues: 1933 -- January, February, August, September, October and December. 1934 -- October. 1935 -- January, April through December. 1936 -- January. All but one issue (October 1934) contain articles by Robert T. Jones, Jr. (Bobby Jones). Overall, the condition of these large fragile magazines is very good or better, with the following exceptions: August 1933 the covers are partially separated (but present); October 1934 there is a faint damp stain in the rear; April and May 1935 the covers are detached but present and July 1935 there is a large chip rear cover. Four issues have an ad neatly excised (not affecting text or photographs). These magazines were profusely illustrated with photographs, and many issues contain substantial pieces on women's golf. They have all become scarce, especially those issues with classic articles by Bobby Jones.. 1st Edition. Soft cover. Very Good.
