About This Item

London: World Books, 1968. Cloth. Very Good Indeed/Very Good Indeed. 8" by 5". Various. A moving biography about the ill-fated Antarctic explorer Robert Falcon Scott. Captain Scott led two expeditions to the Antarctic in his lifetime, the 'Discovery Expedition, which was a large-scale expedition to carry out scientific and geographical research, and the 'Terra Nova Expedition', on which Scott and his entire team died in 1912. This biography offers a unique insight into Scott's life as the author, Reginald Pound, who was the first person to be offered access to Scott's private correspondence and journals. As a result, this biography is deeply moving, and offers a full view at the person who Scott was, rather than the stiff facade formerly portrayed. With sixteen plates of twenty-five photographs. Collated, complete. in the original publisher's cloth binding with the original unclipped dustwrapper. Offsetting to the front board due to the title of the front flyleaf. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Minor discolouration to the top of the front and rear board. Dustwrapper has some minor edgewear with a closed tear to the top of the rear flyleaf. Minor marking to the flyleaves. Offsetting to the wraps. Pages are bright and generally clean, with some age toning to the edges of pages, and the odd handling mark throughout. Very Good Indeed
