Pittsfield, MA: Press of the Sun Printing Company, 1900. First Edition. Octavo (18cm); pea green cloth, stamped in gilt; top edge stained (red), moire-printed endpapers; 141pp. Boards soiled and rubbed; wear and pinholes about the hinges; top edge slightly chapped; gilt dulled. Textblock shows slightly foxed edges and interiors; bindings shaken, first signature pulled (up to frontispiece); errata page has (ironically) corrected errata tipped-in, with additional errata tipped-in pg. 24, most likely by publisher. Overall just Very Good.
C.A.C. Chapman was a known author, elocutionist and teacher in the Pittsfield area, having frequently contributed her stories, travel articles, and poems to local newspapers and magazines. She was also a SPCA advocate, personally responsible for the installation and upkeep of a dog drinking fountain in downtown Pittsfield. Within this book is an assortment of her short stories and poems, new and previously published, and many with a humorous or folk bent.
