Joseph Coletti (1896-1973) , born in San Donato, Italy, was brought here as a child and first learned stone-cutting from his father. After assisting the painter John Singer Sargent with sculptured sections of the ceiling in the Public Library and Museum of Fine Arts here,was urged by the artlist to study at Harvard University. Harvard's Fogg Museum awarded him a traveling, fellowing in 1923, and in 19 24 he studied at the American Academy in Rome. .
