The boards are not later state glossy. Book is 8 3/8 inches tall; straight cut page edges. The pictorial boards were easily rubbed and damaged and were not acceptable to Carson. These dull board, reviewer copies are the first state of this ed. Oxford University Press had all remaining copies of the 1st printing rebound in a glossy “plasticized” paper over the boards. The boards were still pictorial and mimicked the dust jacket.
