INSCRIBED ON THE FRONT FREE ENDPAPER, "For ___ ___/ with appreciation of a fellow pro--and one who understands the whole damn thing/ Ross Thomas". Hardcover. 318 pp. Very good, top and bottom edges roughened. In very good or somewhat better dust jacket, faint bit of yellowing to the spine and top edge. The author's second book, the story of Clinton Chantrelle, a Southern gentleman partial to seersucker and the best rough-and-tumble campaign manager in the United States. The narrator, Peter Upshaw, searches him out and persuades him to run a very unusual campaign---that of Chief Sunday Akomolo, who seeks the premiership of an African colony soon to achieve independence.
