About This Item
Chicago: Henry Regnery, 1955. First American Edition. 12mo (19cm). Tan cloth boards, titled in gilt on spine; dustjacket; 407pp. Inconspicuous darkening to upper board edges, else a tight, Fine, tight copy in the illustrated dustwrapper, price-clipped and with a previous owner's two-line ink note to rear flap; Very Good. Late-career satirical novel, a semi-autobiographical work based on Lewis's sojourn in WW2-era Canada. Though by this time Lewis had repudiated many of his antisemitic and pro-fascist views, it was likely these that established his association with the American right-wing publisher Henry Regnery, not generally renowned as a literary publisher but nonetheless the issuer of Lewis's works in America from the mid-1940s on.
