Printed paper covered boards, soiled with stain front board, closed tears on spine, front hinge cracked, 2 leaves loose, otherwise clean. Autobiography of Harry Pollitt (1890-1960) who served as head of the Trade Union Department of the Communist Party of Great Britain, as General Secretary of the Party from 1929 to 1956 and then as Chairman of the Party for the rest of his life. He remained loyal to Stalin all of his life despite the ups and downs of Stalin's career and reputation. The Russians issued a postage stamp in his honor. The Ballad of Harry Pollitt was a popular British tune. Copies of this Indian edition are rare..

First Indian ed.; 211 p., immaculate and unmarked (except for pencilled notation "2/8" on upper edge of t.p.) on fine paper that is only mildly age-toned. However, front gutter is badly cracked and crown of spine badly abraded; d.j. has damp stains; frontis. is detached and chipped along right edge, but the striking photo-portrait of the author's mother remains pristine--she, whose father was one of the founders of the Chartist Movement, inspired her son to become General Secretary of the Communist Party of Great Britain. This volume would reward rebinding.
