About This Item

London : George Allen, 1890. Cloth. Very Good. 7.5" by 5". John Ruskin. A second edition of Ruskin's Seven Lamps of Architecture, with stunningly detailed illustrations by Ruskin. Second edition in small form. The essay within this volume were written by Ruskin in preparation for one of the section of the third volume of Modern Painters, Ruskin's extended essay that came to widespread attention where her argued for artists to maintain truth to nature. The 'lamps' are Ruskin's principles or architecture and are sacrifice, truth, power, beauty, life, memory and obedience. John Ruskin was an English writer, art critic and polymath of the Victorian period who wrote on varied subjects including architecture. With fourteen plates by Ruskin.  Collated, complete. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, smart with some light bumping to the spine and a few light marks to the boards. Front hinge is starting but remains firm. There is a previous owner inscription to the front free endpaper. Internally, generally firmly bound with bright pages. The first few pages are a little age toned. Very Good
