About This Item

London, UK: Penguin, 1976. First Edition, 6th Printing . Soft cover. Very Good/None as Issued. Text/Near New. Illustrated soft cover/NF w/faint creasings to surface & front upper/lower corners. A novel of how being in love triggers disquiet and even ruthlessness, and may well have nothing to do with happiness. Martin Lynch-Gibbon thinks he can have both a beautiful wife and a delight lover at the same time ... not a new theme unto itself, but the particulars can well drive one to dispair.

Synopsis

A Severed Head is a satirical, sometimes farcical 1961 novel by Iris Murdoch. Primary themes include marriage, adultery, and incest within a group of civilized and educated people. Set in and around London, it depicts a power struggle between grown-up middle class people who are lucky to be free of real problems. A Severed Head was a harbinger of the Sexual Revolution that was to hit Britain in the 1960s and '70s.
