About This Item

Oxford: Institute of Psychophysical Research, 1981. Softcover. Fine. Sheet music. One folio sheet folded to make four pages. Trifle worn, about fine. Tolkien's song from *The Fellowship of the Rings*, set to music by Charles McCreery and sold to benefit The Institute of Psychophysical Research. The final page is an advertisement for titles published by the institute.

According to the *Encyclopedia of Occultism and Parapsychology*, the Institute of Psychophyiscal Research was founded at Oxford University in 1962 by members of the London's Society for Psychical Research. Its purpose was "to advance understanding of the working of the human mind by scientific research on neglected areas of psychology, including lucid dreams, out-of-the-body travel, and hallucinations." Institute titles on the final page include *Out-of-the-Body Experiences*, *Science, Philosophy and ESP*, and *Apparitions*. *OCLC* locates a single copy, at the British Library.
