Daniel Edgar Sickles one of the most coloful and contoversial figures of the mid to late 1800' a power in New York's Tammany Hall, a skilled political manipulater, he was well known as he was notorious. Killed his wife's lover in cold blood, and acquited, was the personal friend of five President's, was at the battle of Gettysburg where he lost a leg, as ambassador to Spain he carried on an affair with Queen Isabella. DJ cover taped inside front cover. Previous owner inscription on title page. Text otherwise clean.. 1st Edition. Cloth. Very Good+/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
