About This Item

Kostroma, 1974. Publisher's wrappers and dust jacket. Belykh, Aleksey Pavlovich (artist). Book measures: 20 x 16 cm. 37 pages: 34 illustrations (plates). Text in Russian. One of 500 copies. Signed on the half-title page and dust jacket.

This exhibition catalog, signed by Alexey Pavlovich Belykh, offers a comprehensive overview of the career of this distinguished Soviet and Russian artist, who was named People's Artist of the RSFSR in 1981 and Honored Artist of the RSFSR in 1974. Belykh's journey into the art world was unconventional, beginning with his voluntary service in the army during the Great Patriotic War, where his drawing skills were first recognized for their utility in military operations. After the war, a visit to the Tretyakov Gallery inspired a shift in his career path towards art. Belykh honed his skills at the Hammer and Sickle plant's studio for amateur artists and contributed to the design of the House of Officers of the Moscow Military District. His formal art education culminated at the Moscow State Art Institute named after V.I. Surikov, graduating in 1952. A member of the Union of Artists of the USSR since 1960, Belykh's artistic focus was predominantly on landscapes, celebrating the nature of the Central Russian region and the architectural heritage of Kostroma. This catalog is not only a testament to Belykh's artistic legacy but also an intimate look into his personal journey from a wartime draftsman to a celebrated artist and educator. It showcases a selection of his works that reflect his deep connection to the Russian landscape and architectural beauty, offering a unique perspective on the region's cultural and natural landscapes.
