Albert Saifer, 1952. reprint. Hardcover. Acceptable. This copy is *AUTOGRAPHED/SIGNED* by W. E. B. Du Bois on the fly, not quite inscribed. A Poor, nay Bad copy -- but with an authentic autograph of the famed American sociologist, historian, civil rights activist, and co-founder of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). Although it gives the appearance of being inscribed to John Wilson, "W. E B Du Bois / Nov 24, 1954 / for / -''- / John Wilson / --''--" The former owner John Wilson had previously signed his name on the fly (of all his books). When he met and got W.E.B. Du Bois to autograph this copy Du Bois signed _around_ the previous John Wilson signature. Even had this been unknown, it is obvious from differing handwriting. The fly page with the autograph is quite sharp and only slightly age toned with little wear. You could remove it and it would frame up quite nicely - if that is your desire. The book itself is a mess. The front hinge (the inside portion of the flexible fold where book cover meets the book spine) is firm, but the rear hinge is split & the joints (the exterior flexible fold where book cover meets book spine) are split. The cover has been taped, poorly, with scotch tape and black _duct tape_. There are some pencil underlinings and marks to the text. There is rub-through to the corners. There is a waterstain to the top spine and covers, although it does not affect the signed page. Reprint of the 1935 Harcourt, Brace & Co hardcover. 746 pages.. * * * * * * * * * * [FREE Media Mail Shipping! Images available for any item, just ask.
