Printed for private circulation & limited to 300 copies; from the author's preface: "The object of our trip was to visit the Polish Brigade in Tobruk and then go on to Russia to see how the Polish-Soviet Agreement of July 29, I94I, was working. I went with General Sikorski as Political Liaison Officer between Mr. Churchill and himself - at least that is the rather vague, unpaid and unofficial capacity in which General Sikorski has always regarded my job. Our party consisted of Joseph Retinger, the General's confidential adviser and lifelong friend, General Klimecki, Chief of the Staff, Colonel Protasiewicz, who looked into and after the various military questions which came up during our trip, and Lieutenant Count Tyszkiewicz, the General's A. D. C. In spite of some quite trying experiences, we never had a word of disagreement between us. For colleagues and companions on a long journey I could not have had more delightful or kinder folk. The trip covered I26 hours' flying and I2,000 miles and lasted ten weeks. It embraced Gibraltar, Malta, Egypt, Tobruk, while still a beleaguered fortress, Baghdad, Teheran and Russia. As few others have had the opportunity of visiting so many places at such an interesting moment of the war, I thought it worth while recording my impressions while they were still fresh in my mind. Many of the incidents are purely personal and trivial in themselves, but it sometimes happens that such small and unimportant matters such as these help to create the background against which greater events can be more accurately judged. I should like to add here a word about General Sikorski, Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Polish Forces. The trip was a compete success for him and for the Polish cause. Everywhere he went people were greatly impressed with his personality - Gort, Auchinleck and Stalin all expressed very sincere admiration for him and all asked him to come back and pay them another visit later this year. When Poland is restored - as it will be - every Pole will owe Sikorski a debt of gratitude for his courage and statesmanship in these eventful days and particularly for what he accomplished during his recent journey to Russia.
