About This Item
J. M. Dent, London, 1971. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good Condition/Very Good. Illustrator: photographic & musical tablature. the dust jacket has been price clipped by the publisher with a new price sticker laid in on the front fold over flap. Top edge tinted red, shows a couple of moisture splash marks, but no damage from water otherwise to the book. Handling marks to the front edge of the text block, slightly musty smell which should reduce with age. Illustrated with black-and-white photographs into sections, and musical examples both of which are referenced in the contents. The book is also indexed, and has an appendix & bibliography. Sullivan has suffered from his partnership with W. S. Gilbert, to the extent, that his independent genius as a composer has been almost completely nought. In writing the first definitive and critical biography of this master, every facet of Sullivan's life and work has been examined and in so doing so throws light, on the composer social and musical environment.  paraphrasing the dust jacket blurb Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
