About This Item
London: Peter Davis, 1957. Letter. Fine. No Binding. A splendid 6 page autograph letter (ALS) dated 29.11.1958 from the well-known publisher Peter Davies on his Bedford Square letterhead to author Aidan Reynolds telling him of his knowledge of Machen, Reynolds went on to write an account of Machen's life and work (pub. 1963), together with a photographic postcard of Machen, the reverse printed with information from the 'Friends of Arthur Machen Society. The letter contains a number of anecdotes: 'the first time I met him must have been about 1925, when I got him to write a Preface.....what they had to live on I don't know it can't have been his books'. Arthur Machen was the pen-name of Arthur Llewellyn Jones, a Welsh author and mystic of the late 19th early 20th century. He is best known for his influential supernatural, fantasy, and horror fiction..
