Jacket lightly edgeworn & chipped, with amateurish tape repair to foot of spine panel.. 12mo. 4.875 x 7.25 in. 510 pp. ML Binding Style 8 in light grey cloth, top edge sumikuro, with Kent endpapers; in black pictorial dust jacket printed, with $1.65 price & 379 titles advertised on verso. Translated with an introduction by English-American director, producer, actress & author EVA LE GALLIENNE. Stated First Modern Library Edition. Inscribed on title page by Eva Le Gallienne, 'to dear "Duck" Davidson -- with love'. Included is a handwritten letter with envelope to Miss Louise Davidson from Eva Le Gallienne, Connecticut, 1955; in which Shakespeare appears -- e.g., 'I so agree with you that Shakespeare wrote for men -- but then one should remember that this was quite literally true -- since no women played in the English Theatre at that time.' Louise Davidson worked with Le Galliene's theatre company. An interesting association copy & ephemeral piece of 20th-c. American theatre. Andes 6.4.1H. Toledano 6.5.
