Good. 299 p., clean and unmarked anywhere; paper mildly age-toned, with some foxing, but strong; Lovely engravings, including frontis. with tissue guard, reproduction of portrait of author, and fascinating period photos, such as Joseph Jefferson on stage as Rip Van Winkle; binding firm; despite absence of d.j. the gilt lettering and patch on pictorial beige front board are still bright; spine panel darkened with faint stains but lettering is clear; light bumping of corners and slight rubbing of edge, a bit more severe at crown of spine. Top edges gilt.
