His inspiration and mentor, was Brigadier Army General Samuel Lyman Atwood Marshall (S.L.A.Marshall) and others who knew him. Davis's account looks at his time in the USMC in the early 1960s, and contains much on the Bay of Pigs invasion of Cuba.
