About This Item
New York: Harper & Row, 1973. First Printing, First U.S. Edition. . Hardcover. Very Good/Good Plus to Very Good. An early novel among Francis' many crime-thrillers set in a horse-racing environment. David Cleveland, an investigator for the English Jockey Club, is sent to Norway to help in the investigation of the disappearance of British steeplechase jockey, Bob Sherman, with the day's take from the race track. Instead, Cleveland finds Sherman's lovely wife, Emma, and discovers himself a target for murder. Boards show wear and color-fading around edges and top of spine, a touch of foxing on top edge of text block, o/w boards and text are clean and unmarked, reasonably tight and square. The dustjacket is somewhat worn, with small tears and chipping at the spine ends, and shows a price sticker on front flap, though it is not price-clipped and shows the original $5.95 price above the sticker. Becoming quite scarce in a basically whole dj.
