New York: Harcourt, Brace & World, 1966. 435pp. Black Cloth, Gilt lettering on the spine. Author ink Inscription on the front free endpaper, "For Marion with love from Joe". Stated First Edition.This is an Important inscription as it is signed "For Marion Love, Joe'. McElroy went on to name one of his main characters in his magnum Opus "Women and Men" after her, Marion Hugh Mayne, who founded the Windrow Democrat as an advocacy newspaper for Andrew Jackson. Prev. owner writes "Book signed, 6/25/95, Portsmouth, N.H.".The front inner hinge is starting, there is scuffing to the bottom edges of the panels and spine. A couple of minor foxing spots on the fore-edge.Internally fine. The book comes with two original red dust jackets. One is an unclipped with the original $6.95 price on the front flap.There is creasing and scuffing along the extremities, the sunfaded spine has a small chip on the bottom edge. in mylar sleeve.The second DJ is clipped at the corners of both flaps, including the price.There is discoloration on the spine, and is vritually free of chips or tears. in mylar sleeve. This is McElroy's first novel. Laid in are two book reviews, one from The New Leader, October 10, 1966, and the other the New York Times, October 2, 1966.. Signed and Inscribed By the Author.
