Brown hardcover with title in black on spine. Condition: Very good, binding sound, text clean, no inscriptions. Dustjacket condition: Very good, with light shelfwear. 234pp. 285 colour illustrations. This catalogue was produced to accompany the exhibition held at the Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam from October 14, 2011 to January 8, 2012 which then toured to the Phillips Collection, Washington and the Indianapolis Museum of Art. The advent of the Kodak camera in 1888 made photography accessible to amateurs as well as professionals and artists were quick to appreciate the new medium. This exhibition investigated seven artists and printmakers: Pierre Bonnard, Maurice Denis, Felix Valloton, George Hendrik Breitner, Henri Riviere, Henri Evenepoel and Edouard Vuillard. Juxtaposing personal photographs with related paintings and prints by these Post-Impressiionist artists, this catalogue offers a new perspective on early photography and on the synthesis of painting, printmaking , and photography at the end of the 19th century..
