Boston, MA: Ticknor and Fields, 1866. 1st Edition . Cloth. Very Good. Gilt-stamped forest-green cloth, 51 pp., engraved frontispiece portrait, title page vignette, headpiece and decorative initial. First edition, second state, of Whittier's fantastically popular and oft-reprinted narrative poem. Head and heel of spine and corners of boards bumped, with head of spine chipped at frayed, mild fraying at corners; page edges tanned, discoloration to endpapers, gift inscription (dated 1867) on front free endpaper, short closed tear at fore-edge of one leaf.
