About This Item

New York: The Viking Press, 1962. First Edition. Very Good. First edition, first printing. 34 pp. Bound in publisher's blue cloth with white and red lettering; lacking the dust jacket. Very Good with slight lean to binding, light soiling and uneven fading to cloth, lightly frayed at corners and spine ends. Former owner inscription to half-title page, pages lightly tanned.

A truly iconic work, The Snowy Day has been named on the most important books of the 20th century by the New York Public Library, inspired a series of U.S. postage stamps in 2017, and was the first children's book with a Black protagonist to win a major award.

Synopsis

The Snowy Day is a simple tale of a boy waking up to discover that snow has fallen during the night and he adventures out to play in it. The illustrations are a unique combination of cut-outs, watercolors, and collage. 1963 Caldecott Medal Winner
