About This Item

The Metropolitcan Museum of Art / The Viking Press, 1984. Hardcover. Very Good/Good. Introduction, notes, and translations by Yakuko Betchaku and Joan B. Mirviss. The Book of Insects by artist Utamaro (1753-1806) is reproduced on 15 "double" color plates - one image across facing pages; the paintings incorporate poems, which are translated in a notes section at the end alongside small b&w reproductions of the same paintings. Pages unnumbered. The book, 7-3/4" x 10", maroon cloth, is produced in accordion format, open on both side edges, allowing easy fold-out of the plates. Minute soil spots to the front board and its paper label, which also has one tan stain, a touch of soil to the edges, corners sharp, no marks within. The slipcover has edge-wear and soil, particularly a coffee stain to the label on the front.

About Berthoff Books

Berthoff Books sells books previously owned by the late Warner B. Berthoff, Professor of English and American Literature, emeritus, at Harvard University, and members of his family. Some books contain marginalia by Warner Berthoff, the late Prof. Ann E. Berthoff (U. Mass-Boston, English composition and rhetoric), or others, which we aim to describe accurately. Our inventory features English and American fiction and poetry, 20th-century literary criticism, world literature, history, and philosophy. Other categories are history and politics of Australia, Asia, South Africa and the Middle East; intelligence agencies and gnostic beliefs; Russian literature and criticism; and Russian and Soviet history.
