Tokyo, 1967. A handsome copy of one of the most desirable Australian colourplate books. Angas's views offer an outstanding and romantic interpretation of the Australian landscape. Originally published in London in 1846, this is his most sophisticated and accomplished work. "The vast Continent of Australia is rapidly growing into importance; new settlements are springing up, on various parts of its coasts, and the nucleus of a future great and mighty empire is already formed..." (Preface: George French Angas, London, July 1, 1946.) Facsimile edition, limited to 1,000 copies. Large folio, bound in original half morocco, marbled boards, top edge gilt, marbled endpapers, 60 colour plates each with an accompanying page of text, a fine copy.

Sydney, Wellington & Auckland: A.H. And A.W. Reed, 1967. Facsimile Edition of 1,000 copies. This volume has been inspected and certified as a perfect copy on Sept. 30th, 1967 signed by Yoshiharu Iisaka, Kyoto, Printing Company, Ltd., Tokyo, Japan. Imperial folio with sixty colour plates accompanied by descriptive text, facsimiles of the rare illustrated wrappers of each ten parts in which the book was originally published from the original 1847 edition published by Thomas M'Lean of London. On his arrival in 1844, Angas began his extensive travels throughout South Australia, travelling through the Mount Lofty Ranges to the Murray River and down to Lake Coorong, sketching the countryside, native animals and the customs and dwellings of the Narrinyeri people.
