About This Item
St. Louis: Castle Square Opera Co, 1900. Lace-trimmed handkerchief printed on one side only. Issued to commemorate the twenty-seventh week of opera in English by the Castle Square Company, this program was printed for "Souvenir Week," which ran from December 10th to the 15th. A key piece of text from Strauss's comic opera, "Queen's Lace Handkerchief," is printed at the very top: "A queen doth love thee, yet art thou no king." The opera was first performed in 1880 and was considered one of Strauss's most popular productions. The textile has been folded into fourths, and is therefore creased, but overall is in fine condition. Scarce. Measures 12 by 12 in.; 310x310mm.
