About This Item

Lennon, John

A Spaniard in the Works. London: Jonathan Cape. 1965: Illustrated by the author.

First edition, first impression. Published in decorated laminated boards and issued without a dustwrapper. The printed price in duodecimal sterling appears on the front paste down endpaper.

A very good copy. There is some slight delamination along the spine gutter. Also, there has been some restoration to the top edge of the front board. The text block is a bit age toned. It is unmarked.

Includes the Holmesian parody 'The Singularge (sic) Experience of Miss Ann Duffield'.

The images provided are of the actual book on offer.

Synopsis

A Spaniard in the Works is a book from 1965 by John Lennon. The book consists of nonsensical stories and drawings similar to the style of his previous book, 1964's In His Own Write. The name refers to a pun on the term "A spanner in the works" (analogous to the American English expression, "throw a monkey wrench", a spanner being British English for wrench), another fragment of Lennon's humour.
