The brilliant novelist Vladimir Nabokov was 18 when the Bolsheviks swept into power in his Saint Petersburg. He, and his aristocratic, somewhat eccentric family emigrated to England and eventually to Berlin. In this memoir, he draws on old records and photos to document the early days of his life before the chaos of the revolution took hold. With several black & white plates, and endpaper map depicting family lands in Saint Petersburg area. --- In full black cloth-covered boards with gilt-stamped spine titling. Jacket with J. M. Schlemmer photographic portrait of Mr. Nabokov to back panel. --- With Strand (NYC) sticker to front paste-down, inked gift inscription to half title page, clipped corner of front free endpaper, and a little toning to cloth, else an unmarked, sound copy. Dust jacket with chipping and small tears along edges, scar to front panel from sticker removal, else intact and protected in removable archival mylar protector.; Octavo - 8 to 9 in. tall; 316 pages .
