New York: Grove Press, 1963. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. Translated by Ursule Molinaro. Very Good in a Very Good jacket, clipped, lightly toned, foxed at the back flap and panel. Quarter black cloth with marbled paper on the boards, bumped at the corners. Square and firmly bound, soiled top edge, clean internally. The first appearance of Johnson's work in English, this being his debut novel about an East German railroad worker who "becomes enmeshed in a plot by a Soviet agent to recruit for Soviet espionage a German girl working for NATO.
