Viktor Suvorov (born April 20, 1947) is a Soviet Army Cold War-era Soviet military intelligence officer who defected to the United Kingdom, eventually becoming a famous writer and historian. Suvorov made his name writing books about the Soviet Army, GRU, and Spetsnaz, but it was his popular history book Icebreaker and several follow-up books about World War II that spurred controversy. Viktor Rezun comes from a military family of mixed Ukrainian-Russian descent, having been either born, or raised, in Ukraine's Cherkasy where his father served.
