New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1953. First edition of Lindbergh's autobiographical account about the events leading up to and including his 1927 solo trans-Atlantic flight. Octavo, original blue cloth, illustrated. Signed by the author on the title page a month prior to publication, "Charles A. Lindbergh August, 1953." Additionally inscribed by Anne Morrow Lindbergh, "For Ruth, Harold, and Jackie with love from Anne." The recipient Ruth Thomas, was a close friend of the Lindbergh's for many years. She watched the Lindbergh's children in the 1940s and did some secretarial work for them. Ruth and Anne remained friends through the 1970s and some of her letters are preserved with Anne Morrow Lindbergh's papers. Anne and Ruth had a complicated and sometimes tenuous friendship. Anne's daughter Reeve described Ruth as "my mother's sensitive and complicated friend." But it was clear that the two had been close and continued to stay in contact decades later. Many of Anne's published letters to Ruth are lengthy and discuss the nature of relationships as well and her children. Very good in a very good dust jacket.
