About This Item
New York: George H. Doran Company, 1927. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Fine/Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Fine cloth first edition with gilt lettering on spine and Good DJ in protective Brodart mylar cover. This is an anthology of poems selected in a contest in 1927 to celebrate Charles Lindbergh's flight across the Atlantic Ocean that same year. Includes a few notable names from that day (William Rose Benet, Babette Deutsch) and many who were likely published here for the first and perhaps only time. Binding is straight and tight. Some penciled notes on front free end paper by previous owner/collector that make reference to an individual who served as a judge in the contest. Gilt lettering on spine is slightly faded but still quite bright and legible. Light age toning to all pages commensurate with age. No creases, tears, or markings to any pages. The DJ is good, with a 1/2 inch tear to top right corner of front cover and a 3/4 inch tear to the top of the spine. Age toning. Shelf wear and minor chipping to top and bottom of DJ. 256 pages.
