About This Item

1855 HUNTING 1ed Sporting CANADA Native American Indians Acadia Halifax Fishing

The author, an officer in the Royal Artillery, was stationed for fifteen years in the Maritime provinces, principally at Halifax. This narrative of his sporting adventures, a classic in its field, includes an account of a trip through New Brunswick. As well as moose hunting (relatively new to Europeans), there is salmon fishing on the Ristigouche, ample observation of the flora, fauna, and geography of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and original reports on the Micmac and Melecete Indians;

"some particulars regarding the numbers and characteristics of the aborigines of the provinces that have not been printed elsewhere, may be found in his volumes" (Field).

This two-volume collection featurescolored lithographic frontispieces in both volumes.
