London: John Lane, 1932. On Title page: "Being a Diary Written at St. Helena During A Part of Napoleon's Captivity Now Translated Into English For the First Time By Sydney Gillard and Edited with an Introduction and Notes by Norman Edwards with Preface by Hillaire Belloc and Five Illustrations." Clean navy blue cloth on boards with copper coloured titles. Spine: light bumping into head & foot with couple of tiny rubbed cracks (not splits) to foot. Small bumping to head board front fore corner. Edges: top-edge now rubbed blue/green; moderate foxing. Eps: faint few only foxing. Frontis: General Baron Gourgaud, from a portrait probably painted about 1840. Few only pages with couple of old light foxing . B/w illustrations. Binding is VG+. 360p Dj:moderate soiling, rubbing and marks. Spine: top: missing 1cm with open tears, chips and creasing; foot: missing bottom 6cm with open tears and chips; tape repairs on inside. Head & foot of flaps spine with small open wear, tears and chips; old tape repair on inside; small hole to front flap spine with tape repair on inside. . Head & bottom edges with a couple of tears (open), chips, etc and tape repair on inside.. First Edition. Hb. VG/Good.
