About This Item

This is a stated Second Edition of St. Ives: Being the Adventures of a French Prisoner in England, the 13th novel by the great Scottish writer Robert Louis Stevenson (1850-1894). It was Stevenson's last--by the time of its writing, he was so ill he had to dictate it and could not finish it. It was completed by Arthur Quiller Couch.

The book is about the adventures of the dashing Viscomte Anne de Keroual de St Ives, a Napoleonic soldier enlisted as a private, after his capture by the British. The first edition of this book was printed, by the University of Edinburgh Press, on May 5th, 1897. The second was printed on May 6th, 1897. Then this copy is dated 1898, with the words 'Second Edition' below.

It is dark gray boards with bright gold lettering on the cover and spine. 312 unadorned pages. All of the pages are fine and it is perfectly readable, but the spine needs tightening and the cover could be cleaned--it would be worth it to take it to a professional for restoration. Also, the two front endpapers have come off the binding. But the first endpaper bears an inscription in Gaelic and is dated February 14, 1898.
