Paris.. 1836.. Engraving on laid paper, handcolored, image approximately 7 x 4 1/2 inches (plus text area) on sheet 12 x 9 inches. A couple of faint spots in outer margins; very good condition. An exquisite botanical image by Pancrace Bessa, one of France's foremost botanical artists of the 19th century, engraved by Barrois for "Flore des Jardiniers, Amateurs, et Manufacturiers . . . d'apres les Dessins de Bessa". At lower left in tiny italics are noted the date of flowering (July and August) and the place of origin (America). .
