New York.: Brooklyn & Richmond Ferry Company.. No date. Ca. 1940?. Folded brochure opening to color map of Staten Island 14 3/4 x 10 3/4 inches. Numerous landmarks and sites of recreation are pictured. The Roosevelt Boardwalk between Fort Wadsworth and Miller Field, built in 1935, is prominently featured (text comments on "the new Franklin D. Roosevelt Boardwalk"). Also, a modern "Diesel Electric Ferryboat" of the Brooklyn and Richmond Ferry Company (vessels built between 1940 and 1947) is pictured on the rear cover, suggesting a 1940/41 date of publication. Brochure is clearly devised to promote recreational travel to Staten Island, via the 69th Street Ferry to St. George. The color map is in very good condition, save for a small area where pencil damage has been erased, with minimal impact to the map surface. Also, one pencil-point size break at one fold. An uncommon item; there are evidently two copies (undated) in the New-York Historical Society Library, but no other WorldCat listings. .

1887. Very good overall. Maritime fund raiser program inviting passengers on the Aurania to a concert on June 10, 1887 to benefit both British and American orphanages. The Chair for the benefit is the Right Rev. the Bishop of Tennessee. Not found in OCLC. The program text includes the lyrics to "My Country, 'Tis of Thee", here titled "America"; it was used as the de facto national anthem before the adoption of "The Star Spangled Banner". The British orphanage is the Liverpool Seamen's Orphanage, while the American is the Home for Destitute Children of Seamen, Staten Island, NY. The Staten Island home was founded in New York in 1847; in 1852 it leased land at Sailors Snug Harbor where a new building was constructed to accommodate 100 children who came mostly from tenements in the city of New York.
