Indianapolis: The Bobbs-Merrill Company, 1935. 423 pp. Thirty three chapters. The first six chapters covering historical transportation and trade. Chapter seven picks up with Donald A. Smith's arrival in 1938 and the first Canadian railway setting the stage for the rest of the chapters on the history of the Canadian Pacific Railway up to 1935 written clearly, concisely and most interestingly. Profusely illustrated. Seventeen illustrations in color includes the frontispiece. The frontispiece, a portrait being that of Donald A. Smith - Baron Strathcona and Mount Royal, G.C.M.G., G.C.V.O. Illustrations from paintings to mention a few.... The Pass.... Grain Elevators on the Canadian Prairies.... Bow River and Fairholme Range at Banff.... Chateau Frontinac, Quebec.... Empress of Japan.... Empress of Britain...etc. Over sixty pages of half-tone illustrations on heavier semi-gloss stock and many line drawings. All three pull-out maps are present and in excellent condition. The map of "Trans Atlantic, Trans Pacific and Cruise Routes of the Canadian Pacific" is in full color while the other two are in black and white with routes shown in red. Bibliography and index supplied. Original dark blue cloth boards. Gilt title print to front board and spine bright. Map endpapers. Cicular library stamp to top of page 1, number to spine and number to copyright page indicating book to be x-library. No pocket. Normal wear to spine ends and cornertips. Boards remain bright. A sound, respectable and most serviceable book.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket.
